• Frequently Asked Questions

How much does membership to MMY cost?

MMY membership is £55 a month, payable 12 months of the year. Rehearsals are weekly with short breaks for Christmas and Summer. Extra rehearsals leading up to a show, show costs and an official MMY cast t-shirt are included in this fee.

When are auditions held?

Formal auditions are usually held in the month after productions. However, sometimes a small number of spaces become available, so if you would like to join please email kimberly@manchestermusicalyouth.co.uk and she can advise you as to when the next time will be.

What do auditions consist of?

We ask potential members to prepare a musical theatre song to act and sing (preferably with a backing track on CD or i-phone/i-pad, or a cappella), and a monologue. They perform to the creative team (mums and dads are welcome to be present if they are nervous) and a decision is made that day. We are a very friendly bunch and know how nerve-wracking auditions can be so we do try to be as welcoming as possible.

Where and when do MMY meet?

MMY meet every Friday between 6.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m at Z arts, 335 Stretford Road, Manchester, M15 5ZA. Auditions are also held here, usually on a Friday before rehearsal.

I would like to join but money may be an issue – is there help available?

At MMY we believe that money should never stand in the way of talent. We support a number of members with our bursary program. If you audition and we feel that you deserve a place then we can help.

What do I get as a member of MMY?

High quality professional workshops each week, two full-scale productions a year, workshops with guest professionals, extra chances to perform at venues across the North West (recently we have performed at Manchester Central Library, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and The Royal Exchange Theatre).
